Headed for a beautiful sleepGiven that beds are the focal point of the sleeping chambers that bear their name, it makes sense to bestow on them the same attention to detail that other pieces of furniture receive. Linen is already well seen to, as are decorative flourishes such as throw pillows, but one local entrepreneur has tapped into a more neglected aspect of bed decor: the bedhead.Georgie Leckey, founder and director of Heatherly Design Bedheads, works from an old woolshed on her husband's grazing property (Heatherly) at Acheron, just north of Melbourne. A textile merchandising graduate from RMIT, Leckey has chosen to home in on bedheads for business. Her designs are high quality and bespoke, with 14 basic styles to choose from (though if a customer has a particular creation in mind, that can be arranged) and a variety of fabrics. The designs are undeniably exquisite: lush and beautiful quilted bedheads in both rich colours and neutrals. Heatherly Design also makes up matching valances, a complete ensemble and footstools. Customers are able to place their orders online, which is handy as the company exhibits through Magnolia Square fairs in Melbourne, Sydney, and soon Adelaide, but doesn't have a showroom as yet. The ordering process is direct and step-by-step, and you can even request some fabric samples before making the final decision.heatherlydesign.com.au or phone 5772 2089.
